When Tom received his pancreas transplant, it failed right away with bad complications keeping him in the hospital for several months. After that, he was not able to have another pancreas transplantation. 

 

After recovery, he signed for islet transplantation with us. He was off insulin for a year, then received as second islet infusion, which kept him off insulin for 2 yers and a half. Subsequently, he received two more islet transplant which have been keeping him insulin free for over 10 years after his first procedure.
